Billy Bragg “A New England” or you can try here too!

For something that makes some of us feel really old, Billy Bragg is coming to the Phoenix tomorrow November 17th. He’s been around for over 30 years now and still going strong. In honour of his visit I found a cut from his 1983 album called “Life’s a Riot with Spy Vs Spy”. An import copy is still selling on Amazon! Here’s “A New England” for you. Hope you enjoy this share. Trans-Siberian Orchestra “Night Enchanted” or you can try here too!

For something really different, Trans-Siberian Orchestra is coming to the Air Canada Centre this week, on November 12th. As usual most tickets have been sold out already. In honour of this I thought I’d share a song that is on the 2009 double disc album “Night Castle” called “Night Enchanted”, of course. Jann Arden “California Dreaming” or you can try here too!

Jann Arden has just release a new album called “Free”. It’s great as if I could think otherwise. I thought it was time to revisit her last album called “UnCover Me” and chose “California Dreaming” to share with you today. It is a great version and apt for this time of year.

The 2007 disc kicks off with “Bring the Boys Home” (originally a 1971 anti-Vietnam war song) that is especially moving with its refrain, “bring ‘em back alive.” The ’70s hit “Peace Train” by Yusuf Islam (a.k.a. Cat Stevens) also delivers another powerful message in a gentle melody. True to Arden’s musical nature, there are a handful of melancholic tracks, including the aptly wistful version of Janis Ian’s “At Seventeen” and a moving, traditional take on the Carpenters’ “Solitaire.” The disc’s one original, “Counterfeit Heart” is a definite standout.
